The non-toxic etching process and procedures you explained was very authentic and useful. I respect experiment and I admit I got some new experience to etch on zinc plate. The whole steps were very tech educative. I appreciate your great support. Happy to learn about nontoxicprint.com and I can also mention heatsign that is working on metal and laser etching. Free copper deposit produced by etching zinc plates in saline sulphate etch forms a 'zinc copper couple' generating a current and producing chlorine and caustic soda. Free chlorine and hydrogen gas in a confined space like a covered etching tray can form an explosive mixture. If the chlorine gas is not channelled and collected, but mixes freely with the caustic soda, then sodium chlorate is produced . Sodium chlorate is a very toxic chemical banned since 2008 in the European Union where it was used as a powerful weed killer."Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7405255100712042213.post-2128805905565646532014-08-13T09:22:42.836-04:002014-08-13T09:22:42.836-04:00Elena

Better to just show what's possible than to try showcase what the teacher's work is at the risk of overshadowing the students' work. And I want to add that the students' work was really good, just much smaller than my typical print. Not to pamper their ego, but sometimes they may get the idea that they will never reach the level of their teacher when they make the comparison. So the most successful way to present both teacher's and students' work together is work done in similar circumstances, time frame and techniques to show them what the possibilities of the medium are.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7405255100712042213.post-37894919342421923762013-01-01T15:58:05.392-05:002013-01-01T15:58:05.392-05:00I'd love to learn more about those techniques,...I'd love to learn more about those techniques, Spider :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7405255100712042213.post-2783837063003471612012-07-03T03:09:58.728-04:002012-07-03T03:09:58.728-04:00I really like twilight! One very weak one for aquatints, one regular for line, and an 'in-between' one for thin lines.
I will have to ask him for the proportions. Drop me a line if you are interested and I will chase him up on it. One thing that is always a consideration with this process is that the more recently made the mordant is - the stronger it is. But you probably already know that.
Do you always have a magnifying glass handy when you are doing this etch because it really helps to be able to see whats happening on the plate, up close.

aine@ainescannell.comAine Scannellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12878546195653186449noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7405255100712042213.post-48902337930869542082011-02-07T22:32:50.533-05:002011-02-07T22:32:50.533-05:00Thank you, Aine.
